MLW Fusion Fallout: The Skyscrapers Shock Killer Kross as Opera Cup Tournament Heats Up

October 9, 2026

Major League Wrestling delivered a particularly consequential edition of MLW Fusion Thursday night on Tubi, and with the dust settling on another explosive episode, the road to Saturday Night SuperFight suddenly looks a little more dangerous for MLW World Heavyweight Champion Killer Kross.

The biggest development came in the main event, where Donovan Dijak and Joshua Bishop, collectively known as The Skyscrapers, defeated the unlikely pairing of Kross and Matt Riddle. With Scarlett Bordeaux accompanying Kross, the match quickly descended into a chaotic, weapon-filled brawl that saw chairs, kendo sticks, and a table become part of the equation. Ultimately, Bishop delivered a devastating powerbomb that sent Kross crashing through a table and secured the pinfall victory.

And that is where things get particularly interesting. Kross, one of MLW's most dominant competitors, was pinned for the first time during his four-year run with the promotion. That is not the kind of result you simply brush aside, especially with Saturday Night SuperFight approaching. Bishop didn't just defeat a champion's team. He pinned the champion himself, giving The Skyscrapers a significant victory and adding another wrinkle to MLW's increasingly unpredictable heavyweight landscape.

Elsewhere, the 2026 Opera Cup continued with two opening-round matches. Ikuro Kwon defeated Andrew Everett following interference from Josef Samael and a mist attack that helped Kwon secure the victory with a Shining Wizard. Meanwhile, Big Damo emerged victorious against Wolfgang in a hard-hitting contest between two powerful competitors. Damo countered Wolfgang's attempted Swanton Bomb before finishing him with a brainbuster, advancing alongside Kwon in the prestigious tournament.

Austin Aries also made his intentions abundantly clear during an appearance with Rich Bocchini. Drawing a hostile reaction from the crowd, Aries proclaimed his determination to win the Opera Cup while taking aim at Místico. With the tournament continuing to develop, Aries' confidence adds another personality to an already competitive field. And as anyone who has spent time around professional wrestling knows, confidence and arrogance can be separated by a very thin line.

The episode also featured JUMBO making extraordinarily quick work of Rich Moya, securing victory in approximately eight seconds. LaBron Kozone provided an update concerning Teddy Long and reiterated his focus on the Opera Cup, while additional developments included another mysterious "Unbound" teaser and confirmation that Shotzi Blackheart will face Rina on next week's episode. CJ Gallows was also advertised for an upcoming debut.

Looking back on Thursday's episode, the biggest takeaway isn't simply that The Skyscrapers won. It's how they won, and whom they defeated. Pinning a reigning world champion carries weight, particularly in a promotion where credibility is built through physical confrontations and decisive victories. MLW has several moving pieces heading toward Saturday Night SuperFight, but Bishop's victory over Kross may prove to be one of the most important.

For a company built around an international roster, contrasting wrestling styles, and the occasional dose of absolute chaos, Fusion continues to provide plenty of reasons to pay attention. And after Thursday night, one question deserves serious consideration: Has Joshua Bishop just positioned himself as one of the most dangerous threats to Killer Kross' championship reign?
