Remembering Jeff “Cannonball” Guerriero: A Life Bigger Than the Ring

Remembering Jeff “Cannonball” Guerriero: A Life Bigger Than the Ring

October 8, 2026

Professional wrestling has lost another member of its extended family. Jeff “Cannonball” Guerriero, a beloved figure in the independent wrestling community, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026, following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was just 39 years old.

For those who followed the independent wrestling scene, particularly the unapologetically brutal world of hardcore and deathmatch wrestling, Jeff Cannonball was a familiar face. But beyond the weapons, blood, and chaos that often defined his matches was a man whose humor, personality, and genuine love for the business left an impression far beyond the squared circle.

Beginning his wrestling career in 2010, Cannonball built his reputation through promotions including Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), H2O Wrestling, and Major League Wrestling (MLW). His accomplishments included championship success in H2O and an induction into the GCW Deathmatch Hall of Fame in 2025. He was part of a wrestling community where performers often sacrifice far more than audiences realize, not for fame or fortune, but simply because they love what they do.

In May 2025, Cannonball publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis, bringing an entirely different kind of fight into his life. ALS is a progressive neurological disease that affects the nerve cells responsible for voluntary muscle movement. As his health deteriorated, the wrestling community rallied around him. Fellow wrestlers, promoters, and fans organized fundraising efforts, including CannonballFest, demonstrating the kind of solidarity that makes professional wrestling feel less like an industry and more like a family.

His wife, fellow professional wrestler Terra Calaway, confirmed his passing in an emotional social media statement. She shared that the two had spent part of their final evening together watching Dirty Work, one of Jeff's favorite comedies. It was a small, deeply personal detail that offered a glimpse of the man away from the ring. Someone who loved to laugh, who appreciated comedy, and whose personality was clearly every bit as memorable as his wrestling persona.

Calaway remembered her husband as the funniest, wittiest, and most charismatic man she had ever known. She also spoke of their ten years together and their son, Milo, promising to honor Jeff's memory by raising a child he would be proud of. Her words were a heartbreaking reminder that behind every wrestling character is a real person, with a family, a home, and a life that continues long after the arena lights go dark.

Tributes have poured in throughout the wrestling community. MLW publicly mourned Cannonball's passing, extending condolences to his family, friends, and those who shared the ring with him. GCW also honored one of its own, remembering his place in the promotion's history and the tremendous love he had for his family. For a performer whose career was built largely outside wrestling's biggest corporate stages, the outpouring of affection speaks volumes about the impact he made.

As someone who has spent time inside a wrestling ring, I have always believed that the true measure of a wrestler's legacy isn't simply the championships they collect, the crowds they perform in front of, or the recognition they receive. Sometimes, it's the relationships they build, the people they inspire, and the memories they leave behind. Independent wrestling is built on those connections, and Jeff Cannonball's story is a powerful reminder of that.

There is something especially heartbreaking about losing someone who gave so much of himself to a business built on physical endurance, only to face an illness that gradually took away his ability to move. Yet Jeff's legacy will never be defined solely by ALS. It belongs to the matches, the laughter, the friendships, the moments shared with fans, and most importantly, the love he leaves behind.

At TaelerHendrix.com, we extend our deepest condolences to Jeff's wife, Terra, their son Milo, his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone whose life was touched by him.

The bell eventually rings for all of us. But some echoes remain long after the final count.

Rest peacefully, Jeff “Cannonball” Guerriero. Thank you for everything you gave to professional wrestling.
